Small update 2-27-2020

The New Horizons team just snagged a picture of the most distant object we have ever visited.

This new object is named 486958 Arrokoth (wiki). It’s a small contact binary, meaning it is the beginnings of a new planet. However, things move slow way out there in the Kuiper belt. But, we now have the theory about how these early planetoids form, more or less particle by particle. Gravity works even on the scale of grains of sand. Neat, eh? The interesting thought about the Kuiper belt is the concentration of materials valuable to deep space explorers. Lots of methane, ammonia, water and possible heavy elements. Enjoy the links, as always, worth the educational value.
